Former Barcelona and Spain national team player Gerard Piqué has been fined €200,000 for trading stocks using insider information, according to COPE.
Spain’s National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) determined that businessman Elías Navarro illegally provided Piqué with confidential information about the upcoming acquisition of Aspy Global Services. In January 2021, Piqué purchased 104,166 shares of the company and soon sold them at a significant profit.
Navarro received a fine of €100,000.
Piqué, 39, ended his professional career in 2022. During his playing days, he represented Manchester United, Zaragoza, and Barcelona. He won nine Spanish league titles, six Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España trophies, three UEFA Champions League titles, and three UEFA Super Cups. With the Spanish national team, he became a World Cup and European Championship winner.
The Spanish defender is also known for his past relationship with Colombian singer Shakira. In 2022, it was reported that the couple, who had been together for 11 years, split due to Piqué’s infidelity. Although they were not officially married, they have two sons, Milan and Sasha.
