Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) has revealed new penalty regulations targeting dangerous swings, following a series of incidents involving bats striking umpires. The rules, which are expected to be implemented as early as the current season, include three tiers of punishment: a warning, ejection, and immediate ejection, depending on the severity of the infraction. The proposal was discussed at the executive committee meeting involving all 12 NPB teams, with the aim of enhancing player and official safety. NPB Secretary General Katsuhiko Nakamura stated that further details would be provided after thorough discussions with the clubs. The move comes amid growing concern over reckless swings in the batter’s box, sparking debate on whether such penalties are necessary or overly strict.
